Submission Guidelines

FAQs

  • Can I submit an abstract that has been presented at another conference?

YES! If you plan on using material from previously accepted abstracts, we are expecting you to modify the language you are submitting for this audience. We are especially interested in work that reflects the integration and engagement of patients and caregivers in research design, evaluation, or execution.

  • This year we are looking for abstracts that fall into the following themes:

Social and Non-Medical Influences on Health or Healthcare

Examples of this type of work or research could explore the patient experience with social needs or SDOH screening, embedding mechanisms for nonmedical needs to be met into clinic workflows, the impact of nonmedical services on treatment adherence or other social impacts to overall patient care.

Patient- or Community-Centered Approaches to Healthcare

Examples of this type of work should have an element that illustrates the how, why and when patient or community members have been involved in the design, implementation or evaluation of the research project. Ideally projects should illustrate how healthcare and/or social needs are being addressed from the patient/community perspective.

Research on Patient, Community and/or Provider Trust in Healthcare Settings

Examples of this type of work could reflect elements of patient-provider communication, shared healthcare decision making, or patient centered care planning.

Perspectives of Diverse or Historically Excluded Populations in Healthcare Research

Examples of this type of work may include the involvement of diverse populations (e.g. rural patients, LGBTQI+, racial minorities, low income, pediatric or AYA) as a part of the research cohort or research partner.

  • We will also ask abstract submitters to identify how their work intersects with the patient/caregiver community:

    • Impacts patient/caregiver understanding of research/research practices

    • Improves engagement of patients/caregivers in the research process

    • Increases awareness of patient-centered topics related to research activities

    • Involves patients and/or caregivers in the research design/implementation phase'

    • Focuses on patient-centered outcomes and experiences (e.g. communication, diversity, or inclusion)

    • Engages diverse or historically excluded populations in research or research activities

  • We welcome submissions from researchers, clinicians, policymakers, educators, and community organizations. Involving patients/caregivers as co-authors or primary authors is encouraged. We also welcome submissions from students who have work that aligns with our submission themes. Both individual and group submissions are encouraged.

  • There is no fee for submitting an abstract. However, if selected, presenters must register for the event (and cover their own travel and accommodation costs).

  • Notification of acceptance will be sent via email no later than April 18, 2025.
